Are you searching for a new smartphone? If so then you should consider Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium. The handset was just awarded “Best New Smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Conference (MWC). The event is held annually in Barcelona.

Not only is MWC an exhibition for the latest and greatest technology and devices, but it also includes awards that are given out to various companies due to their achievements. This year MWC handed out 40 statuettes to several winners. Other winners this year include Samsung that won the award for “Best Smartphone of 2016.”

On the other hand, Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium won the award for “Best new smartphone.” In fact, Sony unveiled multiple devices at MWC 2017. They also include Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, and Xperia XA1 Ultra.

Product Specification

The Xperia XZ Premium has a 5.46-inch, 4K UHD display. It also includes a Snapdragon 835 CPU and a 19-megapixel camera with Motion Eye technology for slow-mo videos at 960 frames per second. Meanwhile, the smartphone had a chromium body and looked quite impressive on the showroom floor of MCW 2017.

The yearly event’s other winners included Amazon for its Amazon Echo smart speaker. Niantic also won the award for Judge’s Choice Mobile App for developing “Pokemon.” The partnership between Samsung and Reliance Jio resulted in various awards including “Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets.” The two companies teamed up to expand Internet coverage to 90% of India’s population.

Reliance Jio has become one of India’s fastest-growing companies. Samsung announced its partnership with Jio for upgrading the LTE services that currently exist across India. This expands the capacity as well as the network coverage.

The two companies are using spectrum in various bands including 850, 1800, as well as 2300 MHz. This allows seamless coverage in urban areas. The project will expand the coverage of Jio to rural zones in the country to more than 90% of India’s population.

Samsung is providing base stations and equipment required for VoLTE services. That will help Jio to expand its business. Jio has reached 100 million subscribers in half a year. That’s made it the quickest growing company in the entire world. The two companies are working to create new LTE and 5G paradigms.

It’s likely that other telecoms and tech companies will attempt to reach rural regions and expand their existing network coverage. The reason the companies should arguably do that is that the web has become a commodity. It’s not the luxury it was in the past. This makes it more practical to expand Internet coverage to other Indian regions.

Currently, about half, the world has Internet access. Countries such as Facebook and Google have been working methods to expand Internet service to rural areas. They include balloons, drones, satellites and other tools. However, this expansion has resulted in some resistance due to various issues being raised including net neutrality.

These are some of the various awards that were given out at MCW. The recipients have earned the awards as a result of dedicated work during the past year.
